ABOUT  LAKEWOOD,

Lakewood Equestrians is owned by Shelby Harris, an equestrian of over 20 years, from LaSalle, Ontario.

Shelby first began riding when she was very young and could sit on her mothers lap during trail rides. Shelby quickly grew to be very impatient and wanted to ride on her own and put herself on the smallest pony in the barn. Around the age of 10, Shelby began competitive training and lessons in Dressage & Hunters. Shelby trained under Tania Kuhlmann (Southern Cross Stables) for the majority of her time, attended various shows and assisted with the school horses. In 2010 when the facility closed, Shelby stopped showing for a few years and began training in Jumpers at various barns throughout Essex County, where she leased and worked on her skills.  Now, Shelby has transitioned over to Eventing, as she has found a new love for Cross Country and wants to incorporate all 3 of her disciplines into one.
As a result, Shelby is able to introduce her newest and current horse Santino, aka "Sonny". Shelby and Santino (4 year old TBxClyde) will be moving together through the eventing levels, and showing under well known 3*, 4* FEI coaches & riders Xavier Traisnel & Lindsay Traisnel at Windsor Equestrian Centre.

Shelby paid for her passion by working in various barns, training, exercising, and giving lessons. At the age of 13 Shelby successfully retrained her first OTTB, and was the exercise rider for her coaches Grand Prix jumper. Shelby has now successfully retrained many OTTBs that have gone on to be very successful mounts both in Canada & the United States.
Shelby spends her time studying thoroughbred minds, behaviours, injuries, rehabs, and issues. Shelby is partnered with CANTER USA (Michigan), and may soon be partnered with Fingerlakes Finest Thoroughbreds, and After The Races. Some of Shelby's sponsors include C4 Equestrian (C4 Belts) & K. Marie Equestrian.

Shelby decided when she was still just a wobbly, chubby little thing, that she was going to purchase her own facility at a young age, and share her passion for horses with people just like her. At the age of 24, Shelby purchased her first equestrian facility with her husband, and here introducing ... Lakewood Equestrians.

Shelby prides herself in giving everything she has into her equine partners. Shelby treats every horse as if it was her own, and only the best care will suffice.

View below, a published article by the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. Over the years, Shelby's work has been shown on various blogs, websites, and calendars, including CANTER Michigan, where Shelby purchased one of her most successful  OTTBs from.
